Specialization and innovation are two of the strongest points that differentiate companies in the industrial world. For manufacturers to be able to dedicate themselves to these added-value activities, they decentralize part of the production process, transferring it to more specialized companies. In doing this, a tight relationship is created between the company (contractor) and the supplier (subcontractor) that is characterized by more responsibility, mutual trust and joint participation in the company's activities.

Considering the dynamism of technologies and markets, it is essential to be able to count on the best partners in the supply of materials, design and development, production and in opening new markets. The supplier is no longer just a supplier, but considered an essential part of the final product manufactured by the contracting company.

From the data available from the Chamber of Commerce Industrial Subcontracting Network (SubcontEX), Spanish industrial subcontracting companies mean:

> Almost 11% of total Spanish industrial production.
> A sales figure around 40 billion euros in 2001.
> 19,000 small and medium businesses dedicated to this activity.
> One hundred percent national capital.
> Employment of more than 250,000 workers.
> Larger investment in R&D than Spanish industrial companies on average.

For the last ten years, the Barcelona Chamber of Commerce has organized the European Industrial Subcontracting Meetings with the goal of putting supply in contact with demand and doing business.

Fifty-five buyers from Belgium, France, Germany, Norway, Finland, Sweden, Romania, Luxemburg, Italy, Holland, Poland, Hungary, Portugal, United Kingdom, Switzerland, Slovenia and Russia as invited country participated in the last forum. More than 417 individual meetings took place of which 83% were rated as very satisfactory in the questionnaires conducted with the participating businesses.

Representatives of more than 200 companies from 17 countries are expected to attend this year's forum.
